- 32 Identified The University Grants Commission (UGC) has identified 32 fake universities operating across India, per its latest list, published in February 2026.
- Spread Across States These fake institutions are spread across 12 states and Union Territories.
- Delhi Tops It Delhi tops the list with 12 fake institutions, the most of any state or UT.
- Legal Violation These bodies use the word “University” without authorisation, and award degrees that carry no legal recognition. This violates the UGC Act, 1956.
