One day of the year needs no astrologer’s approval. Weddings, first haircuts, new ventures, all considered auspicious without a separate calculation. That same day, most of India also sets aside for the goddess of knowledge herself. It is called Basant Panchami.

1. A Festival for the Goddess of Knowledge
- Saraswati Puja Basant Panchami is the main day set aside for Saraswati Puja across most of India. In West Bengal, it ranks second only to Durga Puja in scale.

- Story Maharaja Ranjit Singh held a ten-day Basant celebration at his Lahore court, with his soldiers dressed in yellow. In 1825, he donated funds to the Golden Temple specifically for Basant food distribution.
- Instead Sources describe this royal patronage as part of a broader, cross-community celebration, not a specifically Sikh religious duty. Basant itself predates Sikhism as a festival.
