- LocationLBSNAA is based at Charleville Estate in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand.
- AnnouncedOn 15 April 1958, Home Minister G.B. Pant announced the academy in the Lok Sabha.
- OpenedThe academy opened at Mussoorie on 1 September 1959.
- RenamedIt was renamed LBSNAA in July 1973 after Lal Bahadur Shastri.
Services Trained
- CoursesLBSNAA runs the common Foundation Course for entrants to the All India Services, IFS and Group A services.
- InternationalOfficers of the Royal Bhutan Civil Service also train alongside Indian officers.

The Sandwich Pattern
- PatternA “Sandwich Pattern” of training was introduced in 1969.
- PhasesIt runs Phase I, then District Training, then Phase II.
Bharat Darshan
- TourDuring Phase I, officer trainees go on Bharat Darshan, a six-to-seven-week study tour.
- ReachGroups travel nearly 20,000 km, visiting defence sites, PSUs, tribal areas and NGOs.
District Training
- PhaseDistrict Training is the longest phase, at 10 to 12 months.
- Hands-onOfficers work under a District Magistrate for hands-on experience.
Mid-Career Training
- ProgrammeLBSNAA runs the Mid-Career Training Programme for officers with 14+ years of service.
- CommonThe first Common MCTP across services was held in 2021.
