Must Know

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs launched TribeX on 7 July 2026, a digital learning platform for tribal arts, culture, and traditional knowledge.
Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram launched it during the National Workshop on Strengthening Tribal Research Institutes, in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
TribeX offers free certificate courses and UGC-recognised Post Graduate diploma programmes, in tribal languages, art forms, crafts, and traditional knowledge.
At launch, the platform hosts 20 free certificate courses, covering paintings, handicrafts, handloom, artefacts, and traditional musical instruments.
The Ministry plans to expand this to over 100 certificate courses.
Learners can study directly under tribal knowledge experts and master artisans, from anywhere in the world.
The platform is also a digital repository, documenting tribal languages, oral traditions, performing arts, and indigenous knowledge systems.

The Ministry signed an MoU with Sampurnanand Sanskrit University, Varanasi, to run the platform’s PG Diploma courses.
TribeX offers five UGC-recognised, one-year hybrid diploma programmes, in five distinct areas.
These are: Tribal Language (Santali, written in Ol Chiki script), Sustainable Tribal Culture Based Livelihood Practices, and Museology and Tribal Museum Management.
The remaining two are Tribal Arts and Crafts of India, and Tribal Textiles.
These diploma programmes combine expert lectures, internships, and dissertation writing, aiming to create real job opportunities for graduates.
The platform integrates a Learning Management System and a Repository Management System, for tracking learning progress and managing archived knowledge.
Its Heritage Archive currently hosts over 5,000 multimedia resources, including audio, video, and literature. The Ministry plans to expand this to 10,000 resources.
These resources document tribal festivals, socio-cultural practices, and oral traditions from across India.
TribeX follows a similar digital-platform pattern to other recent launches. These include IndGov0029 — eSARAS and ArtnCulture0134 — Indiahandmade, each digitising a different strand of India’s traditional economy.

TribeX treats tribal knowledge as something to actively teach and certify, not just archive. Its UGC-recognised diplomas put it closer to a university than a museum.
Removing geography as a barrier matters here. A learner anywhere can now study Santali or tribal textile traditions directly from expert practitioners, without needing to travel to a tribal region.
The platform sits within a broader government push this year to digitise traditional Indian knowledge and livelihoods, alongside handloom marketplaces and rural self-help group platforms.
Pairing free certificate courses with credentialed diplomas lets TribeX serve two different audiences at once. Casual learners can explore tribal culture, while serious students build toward real qualifications and jobs.
