1.1 What is TribeX?

TribeX is a free digital learning platform for tribal arts, languages and traditional knowledge. The Ministry of Tribal Affairs launched it on 7 July 2026. Union Minister Jual Oram launched it in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

A learner can take free certificate courses. A learner can also enrol in UGC-recognised Post Graduate diplomas. The platform’s address is tribex.tribal.gov.in.

2.1 What can a learner study?

TribeX had 20 free certificate courses at launch. They cover paintings, handicrafts, handloom, artefacts and traditional musical instruments. The plan is to grow beyond 100 courses.

The portal now lists more courses than at launch. So always say “20 at launch” when an exam asks for the launch figure.

2.2 What are the diplomas?

TribeX offers five UGC-recognised diploma programmes. Each is a Post Graduate diploma. Each lasts one year and runs in hybrid mode.

Hybrid means part online and part in person. The portal shows 40 credits for each diploma. The programmes mix expert lectures, internships and dissertation writing.

3.1 Which MoUs were signed at the launch?

Two MoUs were signed on launch day. An MoU is a memorandum of understanding. It is an agreement to work together.

• Sampurnanand Sanskrit University, Varanasi: to develop the UGC-recognised diploma programmes.
• KIIT Technology Business Incubator, Bhubaneswar: to find, incubate and mentor tribal entrepreneurs.

3.2 Who runs what?

The Ministry runs the platform. The diploma programmes are developed with the university under the MoU.

4.1 How is the platform built?

TribeX combines a Learning Management System and a Repository Management System. A Learning Management System tracks courses and student progress. A Repository Management System stores and organises archived material.

4.2 What is the Heritage Archive?

The Heritage Archive holds audio, video and literature on tribal festivals, social and cultural practices and oral traditions. It had more than 5,000 resources at launch. The plan is to reach 10,000.

Oral traditions are knowledge passed on by speaking, not writing. An archive keeps them from being lost.

4.3 Is the portal finished?

The portal says it is in a beta phase. Beta means a test version that is still being improved. The old address, tribexdigital.org.in, now redirects to the new one.

5.1 Where was TribeX launched?

It was launched during a two-day National Workshop on Strengthening Tribal Research Institutes. The workshop ran on 7 and 8 July 2026 in Bhubaneswar. Nearly 200 people took part.

The Ministry organised the event in collaboration with the Government of Odisha. Tribal Research Institutes, or TRIs, are state-level bodies. They are the main research and knowledge bodies on tribal affairs.

5.2 What came out of the workshop?

The workshop ended with the Bhubaneswar Declaration. This detail comes from an Odisha Government release. It names a Model TRI Framework 2030 and a National TRI Research Agenda for 2027-2032.

6.1 Why does the language diploma matter?

One TribeX diploma teaches Santali. Santali is written in the Ol Chiki script. Pandit Raghunath Murmu developed Ol Chiki in 1925.

Santali was added to the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution in 2003. The Ol Chiki script has 30 letters.

6.2 Is there news on Ol Chiki?

The Ol Chiki centenary celebrations opened with an inaugural function on 16 February 2026. The President was the Chief Guest.

7.1 How are the two portals different?

Both are government portals about traditional skills. They serve different aims.

Indiahandmade was developed by Digital India Corporation.

8.1 Which facts do students mix up?

• TribeX belongs to the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. Indiahandmade belongs to the Ministry of Textiles.
• 20 courses is the launch figure. The free courses and the five diplomas are separate tracks.
• The launch-day MoUs were with Sampurnanand Sanskrit University and KIIT-TBI.
• The diplomas are Post Graduate, one year, hybrid and UGC-recognised.
• The Santali diploma uses the Ol Chiki script.
