Three rivers, three border crossings, and one recurring exam trick: getting the direction backwards. India’s bridges to Bangladesh and Nepal carry real names, real rivers, and real dates — but examiners love to swap them.

Bridges linking India with Bangladesh and Nepal across three border rivers
Real bridges, real directions — a common source of UPSC-style reversal traps.
Maitri Setu
Sabroom → Ramgarh
Over the Feni river: Sabroom (Tripura, India) to Ramgarh (Bangladesh). Opened March 2021.
Jhulaghat Bridge

Beyond Bridges: The Kaladan Corridor
- Not a Bridge The Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project links India and Myanmar. It is a river-and-road corridor, not a single bridge.
- Route It runs by sea from Kolkata to Sittwe Port in Myanmar. It then goes upriver on the Kaladan to Paletwa, then by road to Zorinpui in Mizoram.
- Purpose Once fully operational, it cuts roughly 700 km off the road distance between Kolkata and Aizawl. Sittwe Port itself was inaugurated in 2023.

Why These Facts Get Twisted
- The Reversal Trap A bridge’s two endpoints are an easy fact to flip. Maitri Setu is a frequent target: many test-takers assume Ramgarh is on the Indian side, when it’s actually Sabroom.
- The Country-Swap Trap Jhulaghat is sometimes wrongly paired with Myanmar instead of Nepal, likely because several other India-Myanmar connectivity projects are also in the news around the same time.
- Reading Strategy When a question names a specific bridge and a specific river, check the river’s actual course and border location, rather than trusting the stated direction at face value.
