Mission Sudarshan Chakra

Mission Sudarshan Chakra is India’s 10-year plan to build a real, layered shield against air and missile threats. PM Modi announced it on Independence Day 2025. It grew directly out of lessons learned during Operation Sindoor, when systems like the S-400 intercepted Pakistani missiles and drones.

Timeline

May 2025: Operation Sindoor. Indian air defence systems, including the S-400, intercept Pakistani missiles and drones, proving the value of a layered shield.
15 August 2025: PM Modi announces Mission Sudarshan Chakra during his 79th Independence Day address, a 10-year indigenous air and missile defence plan under Atmanirbhar Bharat.
23 August 2025: DRDO conducts the maiden flight-tests of the Integrated Air Defence Weapon System (IADWS) off the coast of Odisha, a key building block of the mission.
2030: First planned rollout stage of the expanded nationwide security shield, covering strategic and civilian sites.
2035: Second and final planned stage, extending the shield to cover all public places across India.

What Mission Sudarshan Chakra Covers

The IADWS Building Block
