The missile family

- 9M96The 9M96E2 reaches about 120 kilometres. The smaller 9M96E covers about 40 kilometres.
- MixA battery can load several missile types at once. The system picks the right one for each threat.
The radar network
- 91N6EThe 91N6E is the long-range acquisition radar. It scans for targets up to 600 kilometres away.
- 92N6EThe 92N6E is the multi-channel fire control radar. It tracks targets and guides the interceptors.

S-400 versus Patriot

The 2018 deal and first deliveries
- DealIndia signed a contract for five S-400 squadrons in October 2018. The deal was worth about 5.4 billion US dollars.
- FirstThe first squadron reached India in December 2021. It was deployed in the western sector.
- CAATSAThe deal drew US scrutiny under the CAATSA law. Washington has not imposed sanctions on India.
More squadrons through 2023–25
- StagesRussia has delivered the squadrons in stages since 2021. Reports in 2024–25 said most of the order had arrived.
