The Irish Sea lies to the west of Britain, between Great Britain and Ireland. The Thames flows in the opposite direction, eastward from its source, through London, and out to Britain’s east coast, where it meets the North Sea. Exam-setters pair the Thames with the Irish Sea because both are closely associated with the British Isles, even though the Thames’s actual mouth sits on the completely opposite coast.
Remember the trap. Mekong reaches the South China Sea, not the Andaman Sea. Thames reaches the North Sea, not the Irish Sea.
