What is water stress? How and why does it differ regionally in India?

Water stress occurs when demand for water approaches or exceeds the sustainably available supply. It can arise from too little water, poor water quality, or both together.

India’s water stress is regional, not uniform. Some belts are heavily over-exploited while others carry underused groundwater potential in the very same country.
