ASTROSAT, India's first dedicated multi-wavelength space observatory, was launched on 28 September 2015, aboard which rocket?

PSLV-C30. ISRO says PSLV-C30 launched ASTROSAT on 28 September 2015 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota. ISRO calls it the 31st flight of PSLV. The other rockets named in the options are not the vehicle ISRO names for this launch.

Which ASTROSAT instrument images the sky in the far-UV band of 130 to 180 nm, together with near-UV and visible bands?

Ultra Violet Imaging Telescope (UVIT). ISRO says UVIT images the sky at the same time in three wavelength ranges, and one is the far-UV band of 130 to 180 nm. The PIB release of 4 December 2025 calls UVIT a twin telescope with a far-UV side. SXT, SSM and CZTI are X-ray instruments.

The 2020 detection of extreme-ultraviolet light from the galaxy AUDFs01 by ASTROSAT was made in which field?

Hubble Extreme Deep Field. Nature Astronomy says the observation was made in the Hubble Extreme Deep Field by the wide-field Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope on AstroSat. ISRO's page says the galaxy is in the Hubble Extreme Deep field and that the result was reported in Nature Astronomy.

ISRO says ASTROSAT's Ultra Violet Imaging Telescope collaborated with which foreign space agency?

Canadian Space Agency. ISRO's note of 28 September 2025 says UVIT collaborated with the Canadian Space Agency. The PIB release of 4 December 2025 lists the Canadian Space Agency among the consortium that supported UVIT. ISRO's discovery page also names CSA of Canada.

Which ASTROSAT instrument made the 2017 Nature Astronomy measurement of polarised X-rays from the Crab pulsar?

Cadmium-Zinc-Telluride Imager (CZTI). The paper published on 6 November 2017 used the Cadmium-Zinc-Telluride Imager on AstroSat. It reports the most sensitive measurement to date of polarised hard X-ray emission from the Crab pulsar and nebula. ISRO's note of 28 September 2025 lists X-ray polarization studies among ASTROSAT's discoveries.

At its workshop of 4 December 2025, IIA discussed how a larger next-generation space facility could be built on UVIT experience. What is it called?

INSIST. The PIB release says the astronomers discussed how INSIST can be made possible. INSIST stands for Indian Spectroscopic and Imaging Space Telescope. It would build on more than two decades of UVIT experience. A 2022 paper by its proposers describes INSIST as a next generation UV-optical mission.
