India’s youth schemes were set up at different times, over many years. MY Bharat gives young people one place to reach them. It is a “phygital” platform for youth aged 15 to 29.

MY Bharat: the basics
What is MY Bharat?
MY Bharat is short for Mera Yuva Bharat. It is an autonomous body. This means it runs on its own, under a parent ministry. Its parent is the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
When was it approved and launched?
The Union Cabinet approved it on 11 October 2023. The Prime Minister chaired that meeting. The platform was launched on 31 October 2023, which is National Unity Day. News reports name Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the one who launched it.
What is it meant to do?
The government calls it a tech-driven helper for youth growth. It backs both youth development and youth-led development. Young people should be “active drivers” of change. They should not be mere “passive recipients”. The larger goal is a “Viksit Bharat”, or developed India.
Who counts as youth?
MY Bharat serves people aged 15 to 29 years. This follows the meaning of “youth” in the National Youth Policy. Some parts are meant only for adolescents. For those parts, the age group is 10 to 19 years.
What does “phygital” mean?
Phygital joins two words: physical and digital. MY Bharat mixes real-world activity with an online platform. A young person can sign up online. Then they can join a cleanliness drive in person.

Why did India need one common platform?
India’s older youth schemes came at different points over the last 50 years. Each one reflected the needs of rural youth as they were seen then. Since then, towns and villages have changed a lot. So the old approach needed a fresh look.
The plan for 2047 needs one framework for all young people. It must bring rural, urban and “rurban” youth together. Rurban areas mix features of towns and villages.
What jobs is it meant to do?
The Cabinet listed these aims:
- build leadership skills through learning by doing;
- match what youth want with what communities need;
- bring existing programmes together, for better use of effort;
- act as a one-stop shop for young people and ministries;
- create a central youth database;
- improve two-way talk between youth and the government.
The word for bringing programmes together is convergence. So MY Bharat is mainly about convergence. It did not invent youth service. It gives existing youth work one shared home.
What is a “Yuva Setu”?
Setu means bridge. Young people are meant to act as a Yuva Setu. In this role, they link the government with its citizens.
Have big youth drives happened before?
The youth portal yuva.gov.in ran a nationwide drive called “Meri Maati Mera Desh”. About 50 million young people took part. They helped plant 23 million saplings to create Amrit Vatikas across India. MY Bharat aims to keep such large networks going.
Who works through MY Bharat?
The platform links the government, schools and colleges, non-profit groups and industry.
- National Service Scheme (NSS): NSS uses MY Bharat for volunteering, participation and monitoring. NSS enrolment rose from 34.09 lakh in 2014-15 to 38.90 lakh in 2025-26.
- Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS): In July 2026, officials in Lower Subansiri, Arunachal Pradesh, planned how to move NYKS’s older work into MY Bharat.

How does a young person use MY Bharat?
A young person registers once. That single registration opens many doors. It gives access to openings, learning material, digital certificates and government programmes. Each user then gets a MY Bharat profile. The main features sit in that profile.
What happens during a volunteer task?
The platform runs volunteering from start to end, fully online:
- Online registration
- Marking attendance
- Geo-tagging
- Making the certificate
- Tracking the impact
Geo-tagging means adding location data to a record. It shows where the work took place.
Is the user ID called an “MBP ID”?
Some study notes call the user ID an “MBP ID”. Official material does not use that term. It speaks of a “single registration” instead. In the exam, stick to the official words.

What the platform offers
What volunteer work can youth find?
As of June 2026, over 1.52 lakh volunteer openings were on the platform. They cover five broad areas:
- cleanliness
- blood donation
- sports
- disaster response
- community service
Is 1.52 lakh the total ever created?
No. Two numbers are easy to mix up here. By October 2025, over 14.5 lakh volunteering openings had been created in all. The 1.52 lakh figure counts openings on offer in June 2026.
At that October 2025 count, the network had over 16 thousand youth club members. It also had over 60 thousand partner bodies. These include government departments, schools and colleges, and NGOs.
Which campaigns use these volunteers?
- Yoga Day: volunteers drew lakhs of youth to International Day of Yoga 2026.
- Nasha Mukt Bharat: volunteers back awareness drives and outreach for a drug-free India.
- Padyatras and clean-up drives: these build Jan Bhagidari, or people’s participation.
Sources: Fact sheet, 5 Jul 2026: volunteering, News On AIR, 28 Oct 2025: the network.
What are Experiential Learning Programmes?
An Experiential Learning Programme (ELP) teaches by doing. As of July 2026, the platform offered over 24,900 ELPs. They aim at hands-on learning and readiness for work.
ELPs have linked youth with many fields. These include governance, healthcare, media, technology and public service. News reports said that by August 2026, over 1.22 lakh youth had joined nearly 25,000 ELPs.
What other career help is there?
- internships with public and private bodies;
- apprenticeships for training at work;
- industry exposure;
- an AI-powered resume builder;
- mentoring support.
A “My Bharat Mentors” feature was also planned in July 2026. It would link youth with skilled professionals for career advice.
How does it build young leaders?
The Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament lets youth debate national issues. Quizzes cover governance, the Constitution, new ideas and public policy. Some help youth understand issues like the Union Budget.

Also: IBEF, 24 Sep 2026: ELP enrolment, The Arunachal Times, 29 Jul 2026: mentors.
How do the app and the badges help?
The MY Bharat mobile app works in 22 Indian languages. It had over 1 lakh downloads as of 2 July 2026. So many young people can use it in their own language.
What proof of work does a volunteer get?
The portal gives three kinds of digital proof:
- digital badges;
- certificates;
- verified participation records.
They record volunteering, learning programmes and civic work.
What is MY Bharat 2.0?
MY Bharat 2.0 is the next stage of the platform. It uses artificial intelligence (AI), tools for many languages, open APIs and digital credentials.
An API is a set of rules that lets two software systems talk. Open APIs let other systems link to the platform. The vision is to reach and empower over 100 million youth.
How is it linked to Digital India?
MY Bharat runs on India’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), under Digital India. DPI means shared digital systems that many services can build on. The government expects MY Bharat to become India’s largest DPI for youth.
Why it matters
What did MY Bharat's Guinness record measure?
On 4 June 2026, MY Bharat got a Guinness World Records title. The title was “Most Users to Take an Online Quiz in One Week”. It counted 390,812 verified participants. Each of them finished the whole quiz.
The quiz was the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders’ Dialogue 2026 Quiz. It ran from 25 to 31 October 2025. Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya received the certificate in New Delhi.
Why is this a useful number?
Sign-ups show how many people joined. This record counts people who finished a task. So it measures real activity, not just joining.
What other big events ran on MY Bharat?
| Event | What happened |
|---|---|
| Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue (VBYLD) 2026 | Over 50.42 lakh youth took part |
| VBYLD 2026, wider reach | 78 youth from the diaspora, from 21 countries; 6,000 young leaders listed district-wise |
| MY Bharat Youth Convention 2026 | Over 6,000 youth came together |
| Nari Shakti Youth Parliament | Over 7,000 young women, across 17 zones |
| MY Bharat Podcast Series | Launched on 21 March 2026 |
Do not confuse VBYLD’s 50.42 lakh with the record’s 390,812.
Did MY Bharat reach beyond cities?
- Viksit Vibrant Village Programme: youth got to experience life in India’s border villages.
- ECOSOC Youth Forum 2026: MY Bharat helped Indian youth take part. ECOSOC is the UN Economic and Social Council.
- “MY Bharat MY Vote”: this campaign built voting awareness among first-time voters.
Sources: News On AIR, 4 Jun 2026: the record, Fact sheet, 5 Jul 2026: events and record.
How fast have sign-ups grown?
Each count below is tied to its date.
- October 2025: over 2 crore registrations.
- 4 June 2026: over 2 crore 19 lakh registered youth.
- July 2026: more than 2.22 crore. This is the latest official figure.
- August 2026: more than 2.46 crore, as news reports later said.
- 24 September 2026: news reports say the count crossed 3 crore. Union Minister Piyush Goyal shared it.
So the 3 crore mark came less than three years after launch.
What comes next?
VBYLD 2027 is now running on the platform. It includes a quiz, an essay challenge, district championships and state-level stages. The national dialogue is set for New Delhi, from 10 to 12 January 2027.
Sources: News On AIR, 28 Oct 2025: 2 crore mark.

Questions to think through
Why does one sign-up for many programmes help?
Youth do not have to register again and again. Ministries also get one channel to reach young people.
Why is the record count far smaller than VBYLD turnout?
The record counted only verified users who completed the full quiz in one week. The VBYLD number counts everyone who took part in the dialogue.
Why add “news reports say” before the 3 crore figure?
A minister shared it, and news reports carried it. The newest official fact sheet gives 2.22 crore, for July 2026. In exams, prefer the official figure along with its date.
Why do the app’s 22 languages matter?
Young Indians speak many languages. An app in only one or two would leave many out. More languages let more youth join in.
