- India’s Underwater Arctic Observatory IndARC is India’s underwater observatory set up to scientifically study the Arctic region.
- Not a Radar or Satellite It is not an indigenous radar system, nor a satellite serving Indian Ocean Rim countries. Those are entirely different projects.
- Not an Antarctic Base It also isn’t a scientific establishment set up by India in the Antarctic region, which is a separate program.

Where IndARC Sits and What It Measures
- Deployed at Kongsfjorden IndARC was deployed at Kongsfjorden, near the Ny-Ålesund research settlement in Svalbard, Norway.
- India’s First Arctic Observatory It became India’s first multi-sensor moored observatory deployed in the Arctic, launched in 2014.
- Tracks Ocean and Ice Data IndARC continuously records data on ocean temperature, salinity, currents, and other Arctic marine parameters.
