Parliamentary panel’s 382nd report on NTA asks Centre to explore age and attempt limits for NEET-UG
Key facts
- The House Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports presented its 382nd report on reforming the NTA.
- It asked the Education Ministry to explore reasonable age and attempt limits for major exams, including NEET-UG.
- It wants all exam centres run by Union or state governments, with at least one centre in every district.
- It backs a phased shift to computer-based tests, but only after infrastructure gaps are fixed.
Why it matters
[Mains] NEET-UG has no attempt cap or real upper age limit. A 2017 rule had set three attempts and an age limit of 25. The National Medical Commission removed the age limit in March 2022. JEE Advanced allows two attempts in two consecutive years. The panel calls private subcontracted centres a weak link in exam security.
