• On 9 April 1965, Pakistan attacked Indian posts at Sardar Post in Kutch, exposing the limits of state police for guarding international borders.
• On 1 December 1965, the Border Security Force (BSF) was established. K.F. Rustamji became its first Director General.
• Also in 1965, the old Bikaner Camel Corps, founded by Maharaja Ganga Singh, was handed over to the new BSF.
• In 1976, the BSF Camel Contingent first marched in the Republic Day Parade on Rajpath, New Delhi.
